Ghosts on Campus

OK, this is a different kind of topic for the History of Davis College, but still a very interesting. Many Alumni have mentioned more in passing about the presence of "ghosts" or "spirits" or "demons" on this campus since the early days. Even in the past few years there have been weird things that have happened. It is something to come to expect being that it is a Christian college training Men and Women for ministry. What sparked my interest in earlier classes experiencing these apparitions was a line in the 1932 Theologue. On page 70 on a section called: Do You Remember. One mentioned "Whoa! I see a ghost coming!" Now I do not the context of the yearbook written 75 years ago. Alumni have mentioned that the Old Main Building had some interesting experiences. One Alumna from 1959 remembered that one of the lounges had a bullet hole in it. Whatever happened between 1902 and 1910 at the White City Amusement Park (murders and suicides) the effects might be still around in the form of demonic activity. Do any Alumni remember any weird things happening on campus? I would love to hear them. Feel free to post a comment about them or email me.

Down with the Old Administration Building...One Year Later

On Thursday, April 27, 2006 the Old Administration Building was standing for its final day. The Next day it would be torn down just like the Old Jail House on that day. I went into the Old Administration Building for my final time collecting a few things and snapping a few last photos before it would be torn down.
On Friday, April 28, 2007 (one year ago today) Davis College had a special chapel in which the sign of the Ministry Center was unveiled. After that the school went out to have a prayer of dedication by Dr. Parker. Followed by stones flying through windows and sludge hammers on the walls. Then the large backhoe came and took down the Old Administration Building bring it to rubble.

It was a Thursday afternoon that the large backhoe came onto the campus and began tearing down the Old Jail. The next day it would the throwing of rocks through the Old Administration Building before that would be torn down.

Looking back...looking forward...nearly a year later

I have been walking around campus looking at the sights that I have seen many times before and I then I thought about the Old Jail and the Old Administration Building. In a few months it will have been a year since the Old Administration Building and Old Jail were torn down on our campus. I had enjoyed going in the Old Administration Building on many occasions. To know that John A. Davis conducted the school for years within those walls. In those walls were tears and laughs prayers and protests. Memories galore and then I found my pictures of that event and began to reminiscence over the event. I also watched the video I recorded of the events. Over one hour of destruction. I posted some pictures that I took of the event back in April and put them on my PNG blog. Then I moved them over here also for all to enjoy. They are found at the following links below:

I decided to upload some other pictures of that day for your viewing pleasure to see this historic building be torn down as we at Davis College move on.

Whether you were looking up or looking down the Old Jail was destroyed

Here are two pictures. One is a view of the Old Jail House from above it. It was taken from the Roof of Chatlos by Mr. Joe Mack who is the Head of Maintenance here at Davis. The other is a picture of Joe on the Roof as he was taking pictures.

Down with the Old... (PART 1: The Old Jail)

Here is a picture of the destruction of the old jail house on Davis College Campus. This is what it looked like as it was being destroyed. Tomorrow we tear down the Old Administration Building (Museum) on the campus to make way for the Ministry Center.
