A bird's eye view of Davis

Rarely do I post twice in one day, but today I was up on the William J. Chatlos-Gordon C. Davis Memorial building's roof getting some photos of the roof. As I was up there I decided to get some good pictures of the campus. Here is a nice one showing the parking lot and the Alice E. Chatlos Library.
Here is a picture of the John R. Clement's Hall that houses the Post Office. Off in the distant is Patterson Hall. The space where the sign is located is the future site of the Ministry Center. That ground housed the Old Administration Building and King Hall.

Large storm over campus and Lightning hitting Chatlos

Last night (Saturday, September 8, 2007) at around 11:20 PM lightning struck the Chaltos dorm. There was a large electrical storm with much needed rain for the Binghamton area. The dorm is fine other than at the present time the phone system for the campus is not working. No one was injured, praise God. The lightning strike caused all the alarms to go off and the girls to be evacuated from the dorm to the gym for a short time. The event reminds me of the first classes done on this campus in 1911 and the large storm that occurred. I wrote about in Part 7 of the life of John A. Davis and also in an article about King Hall. The storm caused damaged the campus and destroyed trees. Are there any storm memories of Alumni?

Winters of old have returned to Davis College

I have heard many stories of the winters of old. Snow that would go up to the power/telephone lines. Banks of snow that would keep you indoors for days on end. Well the snow at Davis College might not be up to those standards, but we do have about 2 feet of snow if not more on the ground. Here is a picture of the snow on the campus.

Theologue 2007

Here is the cover for the 2007 Theologue. History in the making at Davis College. The cover is still in the works, but this is the basic idea. Old meets New. It is amazing that even though Chatlos was built behind the Old Main Building that the two images more or less lined up. Too bad the balconies were not put on Chatlos.

The Inner Circle

When PBTS moved from Harrison Street in the summer of 1911 to the present location on Riverside Drive the old Merry-Go-Round was converted into the Men's Dorm. I have seen it put many ways: Some Theologues call it "the Inner Circle" others "Mother's Memorial." Either way it is where most of the guys stayed. The Main Building also had some rooms for guys with a large wall between girls' side and guys. Any stories about the Inner Circle Alumni? The location of the Inner Circle is where the Kitchen in Chatlos is now. In the 16mm film "Fruits of a God Given Vision" made in 1956, Gordon Davis tells about replacing it with Patterson Dorm where the men now live.

Whether you were looking up or looking down the Old Jail was destroyed

Here are two pictures. One is a view of the Old Jail House from above it. It was taken from the Roof of Chatlos by Mr. Joe Mack who is the Head of Maintenance here at Davis. The other is a picture of Joe on the Roof as he was taking pictures.

The Old Main Building

Here is my favorite picture of the Old Main Building at Practical Bible Training School. When they built the Chatlos-Davis building in 1964 and 1965 they copied the shape, but they did not put the wonderful porches as seen in this picture. What a shame. Oh well. This picture was taken around 1922 and it represents the height of Dr. Davis' ministry at the school before the Great Depression and his death in 1934.
