John A. Davis by Friendship Cottage

As I was doing research for my presidential interviews for the blog I ran across this photo in the 1970 Theologue. I had never seen it before so I scanned it. It is a picture of John A. Davis next to his home, Friendship Cottage, with the Susquehanna in the background. It was most likely taken in the 1920s from his age in the photo.

One of the Aerial views from the mid-1920s

Here is a picture of the Main Building from the air. It was taken after 1923 if you note the bell on the roof. This image is also from a Theologue since I have not been able to locate the original photos and I have no idea who might have been taking aerial photos in the 1920s. From talking to a local photographer, as well as the Broome County Historian, photographers in planes would travel around the area and sell photos taken from planes since it was such a new field. The person that took the photo might have been from New York City or Philadelphia. This is one of the shots from the group of aerial views that was in many Theologues. Maybe in the future the photos or their negatives will turn up.

Another photo of the Main Building in the early 1920s

Here is a new picture I found here on the campus of Davis College. It is of the Main Building and the driveway showing the cross above. This photo was also taken in the early 1920s after the Crowell Memorial wing was built (1919-1920) and before the School Bell was added to the building (1923).

The view from Vestal looked different years ago

The photo that I found in the Old Administration building before it was torn down is a great image of what it looked like back in the 1920s from Vestal, NY looking across the Susquehanna. The field that this picture was taken from now has buildings and roads. I believe the location is around where the Press and Sun offices are now. You can see the tents of PBTS from the Summer Conferences. The landscapes change over time, but Jesus never changes. The look of the campus changes, but the fact that Davis College still remains focused on Jesus Christ is what is important. Still it is good to look back on the photos of yesteryear to see what life was like for the early graduates of PBTS.

Shall we gather at the fountain?

Shall we gather at the fountain? The fountain outside of the Main Building of PBTS was a wonderful centerpiece for many years. It was part of the White City Amusement Park and then it was restored when the Park was bought of Dr. Davis. The fountain still exists on the campus, yet it is not used as a fountain but as the foundation for the four flagpoles that hang the American flag, Christian Flag, NYS flag, and Davis College flag. Are there any great memories from this fountain?

The Old Main Building looking south

Here is a nice shot of the Old Main Building look south-west. This picture from the 1920s or 1930s looks up toward the Lecture Hall. I believe that John A. Davis and his son Gordon are in the foreground, but I have no way of telling.

The Old Main Building look the opposite way.
